Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani announced on Thursday that Baghdad and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) have reached a "historic agreement” to resume oil exports through the Iraq–Turkey pipeline.
According to Sudani, the Federal Oil Ministry will now directly receive crude produced in KRG fields and oversee its export via the strategic northern pipeline. He said the deal would "guarantee a fair distribution of wealth and diversify export ports,” stressing that it supports national investment and energy security.
"This agreement is an achievement we have been waiting for 18 years,” Sudani declared, highlighting that the arrangement marks a breakthrough in longstanding disputes between Erbil and Baghdad over control and revenue-sharing of oil exports.
The deal comes as Iraq seeks to stabilize its finances, expand energy export routes, and strengthen ties with international markets.
