Kurdish activists in the UK demonstrated on Thursday, September 11, 2025, in front of the Iraqi Embassy against what they described as the lack of independence of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) courts.

The protesters condemned recent court decisions against prisoners, demanding that the judiciary uphold the rule of law rather than act as a tool of political parties. They urged the courts to issue judgments in a transparent manner and remain free from political interference.

Political observers and activists have long raised concerns about the use of the judiciary by ruling parties in the Kurdistan Region. They argue that the close ties between political authority and the courts have undermined public trust in the judicial system and provoked strong reactions from both the public and the diaspora.
