The Iraqi Border Gate Authority has approved the opening of two additional gates with Saudi Arabia and Iran.

On Wednesday, September 24, 2025, Alaaddin Qaisi, spokesman for the Iraqi Border Gates Authority, said the board voted to begin the process of opening the two gates.

One of the crossings will be in Maysan province’s Ali Gharbi district, which borders the Jilat region of Iran’s Ilam province, while the other will be located between Najaf and Saudi Arabia.

Qaisi added that the meeting emphasized the importance of relying on the final delivery document of goods as a required guarantee between transport companies and traders, in line with previous procedures and directives.

The Iraqi federal government currently has 13 official land border crossings with Syria, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the Islamic Republic of Iran.
