The Iraqi Ministry of Education has announced plans to open approximately 500 new schools with the start of the 2025-2026 academic year in all Iraqi provinces, aiming to meet the annual increase in student numbers and ensure a safe and effective learning environment.

Karim Sayed, spokesman for the Ministry of Education, told the official Sabah newspaper on Wednesday that the schools will be completed in stages throughout the academic year.

He added that the initiative is part of the Ministry’s strategy to expand school buildings and develop education infrastructure in Baghdad and across other provinces.

Sayed explained that the project aims to reduce reliance on two-shift and three-shift school systems, improving the quality of education and addressing challenges faced in previous years due to insufficient school facilities.
