Norwegian oil company DNO has called on the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to guarantee its financial entitlements and repay outstanding debts, as negotiations continue over the resumption of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region through Iraq.

In a statement on Tuesday, the company said it welcomed any agreement between Baghdad and Erbil to restart exports, but stressed that future revenues must be secured and past arrears settled.

"Ensuring repayment of past debts and guaranteeing our entitlements going forward are essential conditions for our continued operations,” DNO said.

The company added that it plans to raise its production levels in the region, with a target of reaching 100,000 barrels per day, if conditions are met.

DNO is one of the largest international operators in the Kurdistan Region, but payments to oil companies have been stalled since exports through Turkey were halted in March 2023 following a legal dispute between Baghdad and Ankara.

Industry sources estimate that the KRG owes international producers around $1 billion, with DNO’s share accounting for nearly $300 million.
