A senior Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) official was killed in Garmian late Monday, police confirmed.
Garmian police spokesman Ali Qaduri told NRT that Akbari Haji Rostam, a prominent KDP figure and head of the party in the area, was shot dead in his garden near Omerbli village in Sarqala sub-district of Kifri. He said police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances of the killing and will release details once inquiries are complete.
Relatives of Rostam told NRT that he had no known social or family disputes. They added that his vehicle and belongings were taken after the killing, while the motive remains unclear.
