Unemployed medical graduates and health volunteers rallied on Monday, demanding formal employment within the Kurdistan Region’s public health sector.

Sirwan Kamal, a representative of the group, told NRT that while Baghdad hires more than 60,000 graduates each year, the Kurdistan Region has failed to employ even 20,000 medical graduates over the past 13 years.

According to Kamal, around 10,000 individuals continue to work in the health sector as volunteers, many of them serving without pay for up to 12 years. Despite their long service, they remain excluded from official employment.

The protesters urged the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to recognize their sacrifices and integrate them into the public health workforce, saying their expertise is urgently needed to support hospitals and clinics across the region.
