Sulaimanyah International Airport (SIA) announced on Monday that Turkey has extended the suspension of flights to the airport until December 6, 2026.
According to a statement from the airport, the Turkish Civil Aviation Authority (TCA) has issued an official notice extending the ban, which has been in place since April 2023.
The decision means flights between Turkey and Sulaimanyah will remain suspended for another year. Turkish authorities had previously cited "security concerns” as the reason for halting flights to Sulaimanyah, while flights to Erbil International Airport have continued as normal.
Sulaimanyah authorities have repeatedly called on Ankara to lift the suspension, saying it affects citizens, tourism, and trade between the two sides.
