Iran has officially approved a plan to remove four zeros from its national currency to simplify transactions and strengthen the rial.
Under the new law passed by parliament with 144 votes in favor and 108 against, one U.S. dollar will equal 1,140 Iranian rials. The reform aims to counter the effects of sanctions, reduce inflation, and restore public confidence in the local currency.
