The Human Rights Commission announced that the leader of the new generation movement, Shaswar Abdulwahid Qadir, was sentenced in absentia without his knowledge, describing his arrest as politically motivated.
A delegation from the Human Rights Commission visited the Sulaimanyah Court of Appeal on Sunday to meet with Abdulwahid. He stated that his case has major legal flaws, noting that it dates back to 2019 and had not been processed until now.
"On August 2, 2025, I was arrested without my knowledge and sentenced in absentia. How come I haven’t been arrested in the past six years while I’ve been in the city and traveled abroad through the airport? It is obvious that both the timing and my arrest are political,” Abdulwahid said.
He called on the Human Rights Commission to play its essential role and monitor his case in accordance with the law.
