The 19th Coalition Network has strongly condemned the violence against Shaswar Abdulwahid Qadir, leader of the New Generation Movement, and has urged the International Red Cross and the High Commission for Human Rights in Iraq to visit him immediately.

During a parliamentary session on Tuesday, Iraqi MP Rebwar Abdulrahman revealed that an armed force of nearly 50 individuals treated Abdulwahid harshly when he was taken to court in Sulaimanyah. According to Abdulrahman, Abdulwahid was severely mistreated and even tortured, being dragged by handcuffs in a way that left him injured.

The Network emphasized that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights guarantees every person the right to life, liberty, and security, and prohibits torture, cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment.

Despite not resisting the police or attempting to flee, Abdulwahid was taken to court in handcuffs on Sunday, September 28, 2025, without any prior notice to his lawyers or relatives.

The 19th Coalition Network reaffirmed its respect for judicial authority and courtroom order. However, it stressed that if any accused individual’s behavior is deemed disrespectful, the response should remain within legal boundaries, such as issuing warnings or removal from the courtroom never torture or inhumane treatment.
