The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity has unveiled a strategic plan to increase the country’s power production capacity by 11,000 megawatts.

Ministry spokesman Ahmad Musa said on Sunday that the plan includes a diverse mix of energy sources — solar, wind, and waste-to-energy projects — in addition to exploring future cooperation with Russia on the use of peaceful nuclear energy.

Musa added that the ministry is creating an environment that welcomes both domestic and foreign private investment. The initiative aligns with Iraq’s broader efforts to modernize its energy infrastructure through the implementation of smart grid systems and electronic payment technologies, aimed at improving service delivery and reducing technical losses.
