The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Thursday that former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was poisoned in Moscow and later admitted to a hospital near the Russian capital. He has since recovered after receiving treatment, though visits were restricted to his brother and the former secretary-general of presidential affairs.
Assad was ousted in December last year, fled to Moscow, and has been living there for nearly a year. On November 26, the Syrian Justice Ministry issued an arrest warrant against him in absentia on charges of murder, torture, and inciting civil war.
