Iraq’s tourism sector has recorded significant growth, with annual revenues surpassing $5.7 billion, economist Nabil Marsumi said on Saturday.
According to Marsumi, tourism income increased from $4.6 billion in 2023 to $5.7 billion in 2024, representing a 25 percent rise.
He noted that Iraq is now the seventh largest Arab country in terms of tourism revenue, following the United Arab Emirates ($57 billion), Saudi Arabia ($41 billion), Egypt ($15.3 billion), Morocco ($11.3 billion), Qatar ($8.4 billion), and Jordan ($7.2 billion).
Economists say the growth reflects Iraq’s improving security situation and increasing regional and religious tourism, particularly to holy cities such as Najaf and Karbala.
