One person was killed and three others were injured in a shooting near a currency exchange office in Duzkhurmatu, in the southern Kurdistan Region of Iraq, a police source told NRT on Saturday.
According to the police, the gunman fled the scene and escaped to Kirkuk. Police forces attempted to arrest him, but he refused to surrender and confronted them. He was later arrested after being surrounded by the police.
The police source said the incident stemmed from a social dispute. Earlier, a citizen had been killed in Khurmatu, and the victim’s family sought revenge. To that end, they opened fire on a currency exchange station where they believed a person involved in the earlier killing was present.
The source added that one person was killed and three others were injured in the incident, including one bystander who had no connection to the conflict and was struck by random gunfire.
