Judge Abbas Hamza said that the treatment of Shaswar Abdulwahid Qadir by security forces in the Sulaimanyah court is a clear violation of the law, noting that Abdulwahid was unarmed and did not require such measures. The judge added that a court official can take control of the courtroom through a single alert if necessary, making the heavy security presence unnecessary.
On August 12, 2025, security forces raided Shaswar Abdulwahid’s house late at night and arrested him without prior notice, allegedly based on complaints that have not yet been proven. The Sulaimanyah court sentenced him to five months in prison.
Local and international media reported that Abdulwahid’s arrest followed his warning a week earlier that the Kurdistan Region must resolve the salary issue and implement agreements with Baghdad, or face serious consequences.
