Iraq is currently experiencing its worst drought in nearly a century, according to Water Resources Minister Aun Ziab. He said on Sunday that the country is facing an unprecedented water crisis due to the combined effects of climate change and the construction of dams by neighboring countries.

The minister stressed that Iraq has not witnessed such a severe shortage of water resources in the past 90 years, which has created serious challenges for agriculture, drinking water, and overall supply.

Ziab announced that a special delegation will soon be formed to negotiate with Turkey over increasing Iraq’s water share, stressing that Baghdad seeks a fair distribution in line with Iraq’s needs.
