Iraqi Oil Minister Hayyan Abdul Ghani said on Saturday that it has been agreed to hand over the oil of Kurdistan to Baghdad, and that the Ministry of Natural Resources should continue delivering the oil to ensure the monthly payment of salaries.

"After 18 years, it has been agreed to hand over the oil of the Kurdistan Region,” Abdul Ghani told a news conference. He added that oil is received from Pishkhabur and exported through Turkey, while 50,000 barrels per day are allocated for domestic needs in the region.

NRT notes that the outgoing government has framed the oil delivery agreement as a temporary, three-month arrangement, likely to present it as an electoral achievement by sending only a couple of salaries, with the risk that salary payments may again face delays after the elections.
