After nearly two and a half years of suspension, oil exports from the Kurdistan Region have resumed. Outgoing Prime Minister Masrour Barzani said on Saturday that the agreement represents a great achievement for the Iraqi people in general and for the Kurdistan Region in particular, adding that the United States played an important role in supporting the process.
However the outgoing government has framed the oil delivery agreement as a temporary, three-month arrangement to present it as an electoral achievement by covering a couple of salary payments. After the elections, however, salaries may once again face delays and uncertainty.
