The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced that oil exports from the Kurdistan Region resumed at 6 a.m. on Saturday, following an order from Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani to restart exports through the Iraq–Turkey pipeline.
A source in the oil companies told NRT that the first convoy of oil was shipped from the Sheikhan oil fields in Duhok and is expected to reach the Turkish port within 24 hours.
This marks the first export after two and a half years of suspension. Meanwhile, the outgoing Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has stated that it plans to hand over oil only for three months, linking the move to upcoming elections.
