A delegation from the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) met with representatives of the New Generation Movement in Erbil to discuss the imprisonment of its leader, Shaswar Abdulwahid Qadir, and reported violations committed against the movement by the ruling parties.

The UNAMI delegation, led by Mutsi Murnyaradzi, Political Affairs Officer for the Kurdistan Region, held talks at the New Generation Movement office to address what it described as politically motivated actions targeting Abdulwahid and his movement since the start of the Iraqi parliamentary election campaign.

During the meeting, New Generation Movement representatives emphasized that the case against Abdulwahid is entirely political and lacks any legal basis, accusing the authorities of using judicial institutions to silence opposition voices. They added that the timing of his imprisonment reflects the ruling parties’ fear of the growing popular support for the New Generation movement.
