A section of the Kawlokan Bridge on the Rwandz–Soran road collapsed on Saturday, October 11, 2025, leading to significant traffic disruption in the area.
Khosrat Sadiq, Director of Road Maintenance and Protection in Soran, told NRT that one of the bridge plates broke, forcing authorities to halt traffic for safety reasons. He explained that the necessary replacement plates are not available in Soran, and a request has been made to Erbil. Repairs are expected to begin on Sunday.
Sadiq added that the Kawlokan Bridge, which is around 50 years old, has suffered recurring structural problems, this being the second similar incident in less than two months in the border area.
Rwandz Governor Ahmad Qadir told NRT that the road remains closed due to safety concerns, and the reopening time for traffic has not yet been determined.
