1.3 Million Security Personnel to Cast Ballots in Iraq’s Special Voting on Sunday

The Independent High Election Commission (IHEC) announced that 1,313,918 members of various security and defense institutions will cast their votes in the special voting process, which begins at 7 a.m. Sunday in all Iraqi provinces and the Kurdistan Region.

According to IHEC data, the breakdown of eligible voters includes 597,453 from the Iraqi Interior Ministry, 298,089 from the Defense Ministry, 128,127 from Hashd al-Shaabi, and personnel from the National Security Agency.

In the Kurdistan Region, 124,312 voters are from the Ministry of Interior, 145,907 from the Ministry of Peshmerga, alongside employees of the KRG Security Council, Border Gate Authority (1,596), and Information and Defense and Anti-Terror Agencies (18,410), in addition to refugees and election commission staff.

A total of 809 polling centers comprising 4,501 stations have been set up across Iraq. In the Kurdistan Region alone, 204 centers and 958 stations have been prepared:

  • Sulaimanyah & Halabja: 82 centers, 378 stations, 108,344 voters

  • Erbil: 79 centers, 385 stations, 111,839 voters

  • Duhok: 43 centers, 195 stations, 108,344 voters

Additionally, 26,538 refugees will be eligible to vote in 27 centers with 97 polling stations.
