Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Sudani chaired an emergency security meeting on Thursday regarding the overnight drone attack on the Kormor gas field. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s media office, Sudani decided to form a high-level investigative committee to determine the circumstances of the attack and identify the perpetrators.
The committee will be chaired by the Iraqi Minister of Interior, with the participation of the head of the Iraqi Intelligence Service, representatives of the International Coalition, and a specialized technical team from the Joint Operations Command. Their task will be to conduct a comprehensive investigation, uncover the parties involved, and determine how the attack was executed.
Sudani emphasized that targeting the Kormor field—which is a key source of gas for electricity production—poses a threat to Iraq’s economic stability and public services. He stressed the importance of holding those responsible accountable and preventing similar incidents in the future.
The prime minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening security coordination and protecting strategic energy infrastructure across the country.
