The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) announced on Thursday that the current electricity supply crisis will continue until gas exports from the Kormor field are restored.

KRG spokesman Omid Ahmad said the government will need more than 24 hours to resume gas flows following the attack that halted production Wednesday night.

According to Ahmad, gas exports must first stabilize before power generation can return to its previous levels. "The situation will remain the same until exports resume, and we need over 24 hours to normalize electricity production,” he said.

Earlier on Thursday, a spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity told NRT that the sudden halt of gas supply from the Kormor field has forced power plants to reduce output by 75% to 80%, significantly shrinking the region’s available electricity.

The ministry added that efforts are underway to accelerate repairs, but full restoration depends entirely on when gas production at Kormor can safely restart.
