Jumana Ghalai, spokeswoman for the Iraqi Independent High Election Commission (IHEC), told NRT on Wednesday that the commission has coordinated with the Ministry of Education to use several schools as polling stations from October 5 to 13.
She explained that the commission only requested the use of certain schools and does not have the authority to declare official holidays, as this is within the jurisdiction of the Iraqi Council of Ministers.
Meanwhile, Emad Jamil, head of the commission’s media team, said the election holiday will last from Friday to Tuesday, five days and any extension of the holiday period would also be decided by the Council of Ministers.
