US Special Representative for Iraq Mark Savaya on Thursday strongly condemned the attack on the Kormor gas field, warning that Iraq "cannot accommodate” any illegal armed groups operating with foreign agendas.

Savaya said the armed groups that targeted the field yesterday were acting outside the law and posed a direct threat to Iraq’s sovereignty and stability. He stressed that the Iraqi government must identify and prosecute those responsible for the attack without delay.

He further noted that the United States fully supports Baghdad’s efforts to confront such groups and views accountability as essential for protecting Iraq’s national security. According to Savaya, Washington "supports a strong Kurdistan within a unified and stable Iraq” and backs all measures that strengthen state institutions.

Savaya also called on Baghdad and Erbil to deepen their security cooperation, especially in safeguarding key economic and energy infrastructure. The U.S., he said, remains firmly committed to helping Iraq enhance its defense capabilities and build stronger national security forces
