Late last night at 11:30 pm, two suicide drones targeted the Kormor gas field, striking an oil storage warehouse and three oil flares, according to a source inside the facility.
The source told NRT that no casualties were reported. However, gas production and exports were completely suspended, which has led to a reduction in electricity generation across the region.
He added that the field’s radar system detected the incoming drones, triggering alarms and prompting workers to take shelter in reinforced concrete bunkers.
The attack struck an oil tank in the new development zone of Kormor, as well as the oil pipeline connecting the old and new sections of the field.
Following the incident, all operations across the field were halted. Dozens of firefighting teams are currently working to control and extinguish the blaze.
Security forces stationed near the facility have launched a wide-ranging search operation and are investigating the origin of the drone attack.
