A two-year-old child was seriously injured after being attacked by a monkey in a village in Said Sadiq, a medical source told NRT.
The incident occurred on Sunday, October 12, 2025, in the village of Qainaja, where the monkey, which was kept in a garden, suddenly broke free from its chain and attacked the child.
A source at Shahid Shawkat Hospital said the child sustained serious injuries and was transferred to Sulaimanyah Emergency Hospital after receiving initial treatment.
According to the same source, this is the first recorded case of a monkey attack in the region.
