Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani said Wednesday that the agreement between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad is only temporary and may change soon.
Talabani noted that relations between Erbil and Baghdad have always experienced ups and downs and that the current arrangement cannot be considered a permanent solution.
For his part, Iraqi Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein said he hopes salaries will be paid in the coming days, but he is not certain whether 12 salaries will be distributed this year.
The outgoing KRG government has also clarified that the current understanding with Baghdad regarding oil exports is limited in scope — expected to cover only one to two salary payments until the upcoming Iraqi parliamentary elections. After that, the issue of public sector salaries is likely to remain unresolved until a new agreement is reached.
