A new phase of the ongoing rain wave is expected to bring supercell cloud formations across multiple areas of the Kurdistan Region starting tonight and continuing through Wednesday. According to a weather expert on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, the moisture behind this wave is coming from both the Red Sea and Atlantic Ocean systems.

The first affected areas are expected to be Garmian and Kirkuk, followed by Halabja and Sulaimanyah, and later Raparen, Koya, and parts of Erbil province.

Supercell clouds are large, dark, low-lying storm systems that carry significant moisture and are often accompanied by intense thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, lightning, and increased wind speeds. These conditions carry a high risk of localized flooding and typically last between two and four hours.
