Iraq will no longer need Iranian gas within two years and is set to become self-sufficient in the energy sector, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Sudani said Tuesday.

Sudani highlighted the significance of the agreement between Iraq and Exxon Mobil and noted that US and European companies have expressed interest in building a stable export platform at the port of Faw. "Iraq burns $4 billion to $5 billion worth of gas annually and imports $4 billion worth of gas,” he said.

"The end of 2027 is the deadline for ending gas imports, and by then Iraq will achieve energy self-sufficiency,” he added.

He emphasized that while Iraq’s revenues and finances are strong due to its rich resources, delays in implementing reforms remain a concern.
