The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has officially recognized Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha following a proposal by the Indonesian government.
The decision was adopted during UNESCO’s 43rd General Assembly in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. UNESCO’s Director-General will issue annual messages on these occasions to highlight their cultural, spiritual, and social significance. The recognition aims to promote intercultural understanding, mutual respect, and the values of cultural diversity.
