The Iraqi Ministry of Transport announced that the Greek Civil Aviation Authority has requested the launch of flights from Athens to Baghdad via Aegean Airlines within the next two to three weeks.
The ministry said on Sunday that Baghdad International Airport (BIA) has seen major service improvements following the completion of 26 development projects. These upgrades were inspected by several international civil aviation authorities to ensure the airport meets international standards.
Among the visiting authorities was the Greek Civil Aviation Authority, whose delegation conducted an inspection flight to Baghdad. They noted significant progress in airport services and compliance with global aviation requirements.
These improvements encouraged the Greek authority to submit an official request to operate flights from Athens to Baghdad, with Aegean Airlines expected to begin the route soon.
The ministry explained that the new air connection is an important step for Baghdad, especially since direct flights were previously restricted due to European aviation concerns over service levels.
