The Sulaimanyah Court has declined to send the case documents of New Generation Movement leader Shaswar Abdulwahid to the Court of Appeal, despite an official written request. On Thursday, October 2, 2025, court officials stated that hearings will continue in Sulaimanyah and that they will not transfer the papers, although they confirmed receipt of the Appeal Court’s letter.

On August 12, 2025, security forces raided Abdulwahid’s house at night and arrested him without prior notice. He was later sentenced to five months in prison by the Sulaimanyah Court. His arrest drew strong reactions, with local and international media linking it to his earlier criticism of the Kurdistan Region’s handling of the salary crisis and agreements with Baghdad.
