The Iraqi Independent High Election Commission (IHEC) announced Saturday that all political campaigns officially ended at 7 a.m., marking the beginning of the election silence period.
IHEC spokeswoman Jumana Ghalai said that all parties and candidates must cease campaign activities, while media outlets should focus solely on voter education and participation awareness.
Commission member Hassan Hadi Zair warned that any violations during the silence period would face penalties, including potential disqualification of candidates or parties.
Special voting for the parliamentary elections will take place on Sunday, with the general vote scheduled for Tuesday.
