Iraqi Oil Minister Hayyan Abdul Ghani said on Tuesday that oil exports from the Zubair oil field in southern Basra will resume shortly after being halted due to a recent pipeline explosion.
Speaking at a press conference, Abdul Ghani explained that the explosion resulted from a leak in one of the gas system pipelines, which are part of the field’s emergency and control infrastructure.
He added that the fire was fully contained within six hours, and preliminary investigations indicate that the explosion occurred while a team of workers was welding a nearby gas pipe, causing a sudden gas leak and ignition.
The minister assured that operations are now stabilizing and that exports will soon return to normal levels, emphasizing that safety measures have been reinforced to prevent similar incidents in the future.
