The Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) have delayed the formation of the new Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) cabinet until after the Iraqi parliamentary elections.

The KRG parliament, which was scheduled to begin its new session in early September, has also been postponed due to security concerns and political uncertainty. A KDP official told Shafaq News that some parties prefer to link the formation of the regional government to the outcome of the federal elections, suggesting the two issues should be resolved as part of a broader political package.

Saadi Pira, a senior PUK official, stressed the need for cooperation between the two main Kurdish parties to finalize the process. The PUK has already conceded the posts of KRG prime minister and president to the KDP, while seeking to secure the position of parliament speaker alongside deputy posts.
