New Generation Movement lawmakers in Baghdad and Erbil announced on Thursday, September 18, 2025, that they have conveyed the demands of farmers to the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture and parliamentary committees in order to halt the import of foreign products and support local agriculture.

The announcement comes as farmers in Penjwen struggle to sell their produce due to the influx of imported goods. In response, New Generation Movement MPs visited affected farmers in both Baghdad and Erbil to discuss their grievances and push for solutions.

"We have conveyed the demands of the farmers to the Iraqi government to sell their products,” New Generation Movement MP Arian Taugozi told NRT.

Meanwhile, Akbar Gharib, a member of the Kurdistan Parliament, accused the ruling PUK and KDP of allowing foreign products to be smuggled into the market, undermining the livelihoods of local farmers.
