The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRG) announced that more than 100 million cubic meters of water have been stored in the Dukan and Darbandikhan dams following the latest wave of rainfall.
In a statement, the ministry said the recent floods have boosted water revenues from natural sources, raising storage levels in key dams. In the past 24 hours, water levels rose by 60 cm in Darbandikhan, 85 cm in Dukan, 16 cm in Duhok Dam, and 60 cm in Gomaspan Dam.
The ministry also noted that smaller dams across Garmian, Sulaimanyah, Erbil, and Duhok have safely managed the floodwaters, with most now full and others showing increased storage. Officials stressed that continued wet weather is expected to further raise water levels in the major dams, ensuring a revival of the region’s water resources as the new year approaches.
