The Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture announced on Tuesday that imports of chicken and poultry products from 39 countries will be banned starting January next year.
The ministry said the decision was taken after several cases of bird flu were recorded in those countries and is intended to protect poultry production and public health in Iraq.
An adviser to the Ministry of Agriculture said the ban includes live and frozen chickens, eggs, and other poultry products.
He added that the most prominent countries on the banned list include Turkey, Iran, Egypt, Italy, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
