Eight people are missing in the mountainous areas of Sedakan, part of the Soran administration, after heavy snowfall hit the region, according to local authorities.
Karwan Mirawdali, director of Soran Civil Defense, told NRT on Sunday, December 28, 2025, that the fate of eight residents who went with their livestock to the mountains of Sedakan remains unknown.
"They have been out of contact since last night, and so far we have been unable to determine their fate,” Mirawdali said, adding that all of them are from the local area and seven have been identified.
He noted that it is unclear whether they are trapped by snow or have faced another incident, stressing that their situation remains uncertain.
At the same time, Mirawdali said a seven member mountaineering team has been trapped in a mountain area of Sedakan since yesterday and is calling for help, as heavy snowfall continues to pose serious risks in high altitude areas.
