The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Media and Information Office announced on Thursday that electricity production in the region has sharply decreased following the drone attack on the Kormor gas field in Chamchamal.
According to the statement, power generation has fallen from 4,000 megawatts to just 1,000 megawatts, reducing the region’s 24-hour electricity supply to only five hours. The disruption comes after gas exports to power plants were completely halted.
Earlier in the day, the Ministries of Electricity and Natural Resources confirmed that the attack had forced a total suspension of gas flow from the field, immediately impacting power stations reliant on Kormor’s output.
Authorities are assessing the full extent of the damage while efforts continue to restore gas production and stabilize the electricity grid.
