Outgoing Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani strongly condemned the late-night attack on the Kormor gas field, calling on the Iraqi federal government to identify and prosecute those responsible.
In a statement, Barzani described the strike as a "cowardly attack” targeting vital civilian infrastructure, stressing that such actions must not be tolerated. He warned that the perpetrators, whether terrorists or any group involved, "must not be allowed to repeat these crimes or be released on bail as in the past.”
Barzani also appealed to the Kurdistan Region’s international partners, urging them to provide the necessary defensive equipment to help protect strategic facilities like the Kormor field. He emphasized that stronger support is needed to prevent future strikes and safeguard both the region’s people and its economic progress.
The attack, carried out by two suicide drones, forced a complete shutdown of gas production and reduced electricity output across the Kurdistan Region. Investigations are ongoing as security forces search for the source of the attack.
