The outgoing Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has not yet handed over oil and domestic revenues to Baghdad despite repeated demands from Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani, who has called for a full report on oil exports by tomorrow.

According to NRT sources, the outgoing government continues to smuggle oil and is seeking to delay the implementation of its agreement with Baghdad until next year. Instead, it intends to pay only one or two salaries before the elections to claim progress on the salary crisis during its campaign.

Reports suggest that the government is using oil and domestic revenues as a political pressure card to secure participation in the next Iraqi government. Meanwhile, a source warned NRT that if the agreements are not implemented, the fate of six months’ salaries could be at risk. Baghdad, the source added, may be forced to take alternative steps if oil smuggling continues.
