The arrest of Shaswar Abdulwahid Qadir, leader of the New Generation Movement, on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, continues to spark strong reactions locally and internationally. According to NRT, despite a judge's ruling, his relatives and friends are not permitted to visit him in prison.

The New Generation Movement faction stated that the arrest comes after Abdulwahid warned that if the Kurdistan Region does not resolve the salary issue for employees, the movement would take a serious stance.

Meanwhile, NRT reporters at the Sulaimani court confirmed that all New Generation MPs and hundreds of volunteers have gathered at the court since the morning, joined by dozens of independent lawyers, showing strong support for Abdulwahid. The faction emphasized that the ongoing detention reflects political pressures rather than legal grounds.
