The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity announced on Tuesday that the Basmaya gas-fired power plant has fully resumed operations, adding 5,000 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
According to the ministry, all units of the plant, including those previously under repair, are now operational. Officials said the plant will play a key role in improving the country’s electricity generation capacity, alleviating pressure on the grid, and reducing hours of power outages.
The ministry stressed that work will continue to expand electricity sources and enhance stability in the national supply.
