A member of the Iraqi Parliament’s Oil and Gas Committee has accused the Kurdistan Region of continuing to smuggle oil through 26 unofficial ports.
Ali Mashkur, a member of the committee, said on Saturday that the Kurdistan Region is still engaged in oil smuggling operations, and even the federal government in Baghdad does not know how to address the issue.
He explained that the region currently smuggles oil through 26 unofficial outlets, a situation that has further complicated relations between Baghdad and Erbil.
Mashkur added that ongoing political differences have delayed the passage of the oil and gas law, which is expected to provide a legal framework for resolving disputes between the two sides.
