Following a series of rallies, strikes, and demonstrations by unemployed medical graduates across the Kurdistan Region, the regional government has decided to employ 775 of them.

Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday, September 1, 2025, signed a decree approving the employment of graduates from medical colleges of Kurdistan universities for the academic year 2023–2024. The decision includes graduates from the universities of Sulaimani, Erbil Medical, Duhok, Zakho, Koya, Garmian, and Kurdistan University, who will be appointed to the staff of the Ministry of Health.

While the move was welcomed by those included in the decree, the fate of thousands of other medical graduates remains uncertain, as unemployment among professionals continues to be a pressing issue in the region.
