The New Generation Movement has strongly criticized the ongoing agreement process between the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and the federal government in Baghdad, accusing the ruling parties—the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP)—of using the people’s suffering to advance their election campaigns.
In a statement released Monday, New Generation said the two ruling families are "gambling with people’s lives” while the Iraqi government has withheld the Region’s salaries due to what it described as the "theft and looting” by the PUK and KDP.
"The KRG is not willing to hand over 42,000 barrels of oil for domestic consumption and deliver the remainder to Baghdad,” the statement read. "They also refuse to hand over part of the Region’s domestic revenue and control over border points.”
According to New Generation, the PUK and KDP have shown no flexibility in addressing Baghdad’s demands and are attempting to temporarily withdraw from the federal government as a campaign strategy ahead of the elections.
"The first and only losers in this political game are the people of the Kurdistan Region, especially salaried employees who continue to suffer,” the statement concluded, urging immediate action to protect citizens from political exploitation.
